History and Terroir

Based in Saint-Émilion, Château Canon is a Premier Grand Cru Classé (B) estate on Bordeaux’s Right Bank. The name's origin traces back to Jacques Kanon, a privateer in the Royal Navy who became its owner in 1760. A true visionary, he recognized the untapped potential of this terroir and made the decisive move of planting vines on the land. Now under supervision of Nicolas Audebert, Canon has risen to the top of the ranks, and is regularly deemed one of the top Saint-Émilion estates by collectors and industry folk alike.

Farming and Winemaking

Canon’s 21.5 hectares of vines are planted to 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc. The vineyards are encircled by protective walls, guarding them against spring frosts. Moreover, the soil's characteristics ensure a consistent freshness, enabling the grape varieties to attain optimal maturity levels.
