Domaine denis mortet
After learning under the great Henri Jayer, Denis Mortet inherited 4.5 hectares of his father’s vines back in 1991. Around this time, Denis also fell in love with the wines of Lalou Bize-Leroy and was able to study under her tutelage as well. Upon the launch of his namesake domaine in 1992, Denis began to craft his own Jayer-meets-Bize-Leroy-inspired style, which continues to attract Burgundy aficionados of both camps to the family’s wines. Denis’ son Arnaud joined him at the estate five short years later, and after Denis’ passing in 2006, fully took over the domaine. Today, Arnaud organically farms 11 hectares of vines across some of Burgundy’s most beloved appellations, including the Grand Crus of Chambertin, Bonnes Mares, and Clos de Vougeot. Mortet’s wines are defined by their seductive aromatics, profound texture, and pristine fruit character – and the wines have only soared to new heights since the joining of his mother, Laurence, and sister, Clémence, at the estate. These wines belong in reputable cellars (and glasses) everywhere.
