History and Terroir

Tua Rita was founded in 1984 by Rita Tua and Virgilio Bisti in the scenic medieval town of Suvereto, located on Tuscany's coastal province of Livorno. Their vision was rooted in producing expressive wines from the area's prestigious “Super Tuscan” varieties, which include Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Sangiovese, and Cabernet Franc. The estate gained international acclaim in 2000 when their flagship 100% Merlot, Redigaffi, became the first Italian wine to receive a perfect 100-point score from critic Robert Parker Jr., who described it as "as close to perfection as a wine can get." As one of the first estates to pioneer Super Tuscan-style vineyards in the southern region of Bolgheri, Tua Rita set a high standard, inspiring neighboring estates to follow their lead.

Farming and Winemaking

Tua Rita cultivates its 65 hectares of vineyards with an unwavering focus on quality. Their low-yielding vines thrive in silt-clay soils infused with iron and saline elements, which add distinct minerality to their wines' concentrated, complex flavors. The estate’s dedication to meticulous vine management and thoughtful winemaking produces rich, full-bodied wines that have garnered a cult-like following among critics, collectors, and industry experts. Today, Tua Rita remains a benchmark in Italian winemaking, crafting wines of depth and power that continue to captivate palates worldwide.
