History and Terroir

Henri Bonneau is a historic Châteauneuf-du-Pape estate dating back to 1667. The current team is led by the family's 12th generation, Henri Bonneau. Henri's first vintage was in 1956, and the same traditional winemaking methods are still used today, despite his passing in 2016. The Bonneau family has a long history of producing exceptional wines, and their estate is considered one of the most prestigious in Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

Farming and Winemaking

Henri Bonneau is a Grenache enthusiast, and the variety dominates approximately 90% of his holdings. The remaining 10% is planted to Mourvèdre, Syrah, Counoise, and Vaccarese. Bonneau employs an extreme non-interventionist mentality in the cellar, with an average of just two cuvées produced per vintage. His vineyard holdings span just six hectares in total, resulting in low yields of highly concentrated grapes. Bonneau's winemaking methods are traditional and time-honored. He uses whole cluster inclusion, weeks-long fermentations in concrete, and numerous pumpovers. Aging is done in a combination of old (10+ years) oak vessels. The result is complex, textured, out-of-this-world wines that can age for decades.
