History and Terroir

Laurent Lignier took over his father’s Domaine in 2006, continuing the heritage established by five generations of winemakers as one of the leading producers in Morey-Saint-Denis, in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, where their home and cellars are located. The Domaine also owns and farms vines in Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny, as well as the appellations of Nuits-Saint-Georges and Pommard.

Farming and Winemaking

Adhering the philosophy of low intervention, Laurent doesn’t use herbicides and only utilizes organic compost when necessary. He holds back on the use of new oak, allowing only up to 30% for the Premier and Grand Crus, which stay in cask for 20 to 22 months and don’t undergo any fining or filtration. A few of Lignier’s celebrated wines include Griotte-Chambertin, Clos de la Roche and Nuit-Saint-Georges 1er Cru “Les Didiers” – Hospices de Nuits.

“I think it’s important to work as clean as possible not only for our health but also the health of our employees and our consumers.”
