Château d'Yquem

Pierre Lurton and Lorenzo Pasquini

History and Terroir

In the world of sweet wine, Sauternes sits atop the throne—and within the appellation, Château d’Yquem undeniably reigns king. The estate’s rich history dates back to the late 1500s, though in the modern day, it has been under the oversight of Cheval Blanc’s managing director, the legendary Pierre Lurton. The estate was the only Sauternes property recognized during the Wine Classification of 1855, which speaks to the winery’s long-standing renown.

Farming and Winemaking

In addition to meticulous know-how executed by the estate, a little bit of magic lives in each bottle of Château d’Yquem. These noble rot-inflicted wines are able to withstand decades—even centuries—in the cellar, and promise to reveal themselves in new ways over and over again.
