History and Terroir

Château Palmer is a Third Growth estate located in the Margaux and Cantenac communes of Bordeaux’s Left Bank. The estate was once part of the former Château d’Issan, which was divided by the Foix-Candale family heirs in the mid-18th century. As of 2004, the winery has been managed by the former winemaker of Tenuta dell’Ornellaia, Thomas Duroux.

Farming and Winemaking

The estate’s 55 hectares are planted to equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot (47%) each, rounded out with 6% Petit Verdot. Palmer generally produces between 11,000 and 12,000 cases of its flagship wine annually, followed by 7,000-8,000 cases of its secondary and earlier-drinking label, Alter Ego de Palmer.
