Château Haut-Brion
Prince Robert of Luxembourg
History and Terroir
Of all of Bordeaux’s First Growths, Château Haut-Brion may just be the most unique of them all. Unlike the other estates, Haut-Brion is the only classified growth located in Pessac-Léognan, where it continues to be a benchmark for wineries today. The estate’s rich history dates back to the 1400s, though grapes have been cultivated on the property since Roman times. In 1935, Clarence Dillon acquired Château Haut-Brion and diligently revived its former magnificence, reinstating its position among the most renowned wines globally. This remarkable and audacious endeavor has been carried on by the fourth generation of the family, led by Prince Robert of Luxembourg, who has served as Chairman and CEO since 2008. Situated in the town of Pessac, a short distance from Bordeaux, Château Haut-Brion, the initial estate purchased by the Dillon family, holds the distinction of being the oldest vineyard in the region. Today, Haut-Brion holds just over 50 hectares of vines in Pessac-Léognan, of which 48 are dominated by red varieties, mostly Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
