Marco Coppola was born and raised in Naples, where he wrote, directed, and self-produced three award winning short films, which screened worldwide at international festivals. In 2010, he moved to New York to continue pursuing his filmmaking career. Marco’s storytelling style “feels personal and authentic” (Peter Belsito, Film Finders EVP); he is interested in exploring all facets of humanity, trying to render (un)common people’s life with emotional honesty. His short film Grand Morelos was awarded best lead actor by New York’s First Run Film Festival and nominated to the Grand Jury Prize at the Slamdance Film Festival 2014. He collaborated with other New York indie filmmakers directing and/or producing a broad variety of projects, including award-winning web series Common Ground, AICP Award Winner commercial Ella, and Afrojack’s music video Turn Up the Speakers. In 2015, he received his MFA in Film & TV Production at NYU-Tisch, where he was earlier awarded two scholarships. His debut feature film The Nearest Human Being, completed in 2019 and starring Natalia Dyer (Stranger Things), won the Manhattan Film Festival and was recipient of a Hollywood Foreign Press Association grant. he was invited by FAMU International, in Prague, for a guest lecture on how to make a first feature film and has collaborated with the New York International Screenplay Festival as member of the jury panel. He is now based in Italy where he keeps developing personal projects aside from his collaboration with Crurated.
