Château La Mission Haut-Brion
Jean-Philippe Delmas
History and Terroir
Château la Mission Haut-Brion also finds its home base in Pessac-Léognan. In 1983, the Dillon family took over the property and embarked on a remarkable revitalization, introducing new technological advancements to showcase the invaluable terroir while carefully preserving the essence, charm, and spiritual character that define La Mission.
Farming and Winemaking
Château La Mission Haut-Brion's terroir is closely intertwined with that of Château Haut-Brion. Both properties face each other in the Graves region, resembling twin sisters with distinct characteristics. The vineyard is located in Talence and Pessac. Gravel soils, consisting of small quartz stones, rest atop a unique subsoil of clay, sand, limestone, and faluns formed during various geological periods. These gravelly slopes offer excellent exposure and natural drainage, benefiting from small watercourses like Peugue and Serpent, both Garonne River tributaries.
