VIEUX CHÂTEAU CERTAN

«The wines of Vieux Château Certan have their own character; they have their own story to tell – not ours.»

Alexandre Thienpont

History

Château Vieux Certan is one of the oldest estates in Pomerol, and is often deemed of equal quality to neighboring Pétrus. Comprising just 14 hectares of vines, the estate puts out just 5,000 cases of its regularly high-scoring grand vin annually. Of equal renown is Château Le Pin, also rooted in the prestigious Pomerol appellation. Spearheaded by Jacques Thienpont, whose family owns Vieux Château Certan since 1979, this even smaller estate covers just 2.7 hectares and produces only 600-700 cases of its Merlot-dominant grand vin per year. Now under Alexandre and Guillaume Thienpont supervision, today Vieux Château Certan produces some of the greatest wines of Bordeaux.
